Installation Notes

This installation was completed in May of 2026.  This was a previous customer of mine from 2024 who decided to upgrade their system.  The customer initially went with a Phoenix 12/1200 inverter powering only the AC outlets and a smartshunt to monitor the OEM AGM batteries.  The customer had minimal power needs and was new to off grid camping and decided to start small, knowing they may decide to upgrade in the future.  After a couple years of use the customer decided it was time to upgrade.  We had some discussions and the customer decided to go to a Multiplus 12/3000/120 able to power the entire RV.  I included a VE Bus Bluetooth Smart Dongle to allow the Multiplus to be controlled from the Victron Connect app.  I also upgraded the customer’s AGM batteries to an EPOCH Essential 460 Amp Hour lithium battery.  I added a Blue Sea HD 3000 main battery switch to allow for isolation of  the battery from the system for maintenance or storage.  I reused the IP65 SmartShunt I originally installed and added an additional Mega Fuse holder with a 400 amp fuse for the Multiplus.  I repurposed the original Mega Fuse holder for the Phoenix inverter to power the OEM DC system (with an 80 amp mega fuse).

The installation was completed in a single day.  I removed the Phoenix inverter from the pass through storage area and replaced it with the Multiplus. I relocated the battery to the pass through storage area with the Multiplus.  The EPOCH battery was too big to fit on the OEM battery rack on the A-frame of the trailer.  I moved the SmartShunt with the battery.  The hardest part of the installation was running new AC wiring from the shore input to the AC Input of the Multiplus and then from the AC Output of the Multiplus to the Main breaker panel.  This required digging into the belly of the trailer, which was covered with corroplast, and routing the wire around storage tanks and trailer framing.  It took a little work, but I was ultimately able to get the wire runs completed and hooked up.  The customer now has a much more robust inverter and battery set up for their modest power needs.  The only thing missing now is a small solar array that the customer may add in the future.
